About

A guided autumn walk at Havannah Nature Reserve spotting and recording colourful waxcap fungi for NHSN's North East Waxcaps citizen science project.

This informal beginner-friendly walk explores Havannah Nature Reserve in search of waxcaps, colourful fungi that indicate healthy, undisturbed grassland. Led by NHSN Senior Naturalist James Common, the session takes a relaxed look at autumn wildlife while recording key finds for the North East Waxcaps project, which maps and protects the region's waxcap grasslands through citizen science. Participants learn how to identify waxcaps in the field and submit sightings via iRecord. The event lasts around two hours; attendees should bring weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear and warm drinks.
