Folklore, Female Aging & The Hag
About
A Seed Talks evening with Dr Tracy Fahey exploring the folklore figure of the Hag, or Cailleach, through folk tales, film and fiction, followed by a Q&A.
Dr Tracy Fahey, an Irish author and academic specialising in the Gothic, gives a talk tracing the origins and significance of the Hag, or Cailleach, a sovereignty goddess from folklore. The talk examines how this figure, long reduced to fear or ridicule, is being reclaimed in contemporary culture through films such as Weapons and Hokum and books by Sharon Blackie and Manchán Magan, and how she connects to anxieties about ageing, femininity, nature and power. Doors open at 7pm with the talk starting at 7:30pm, and the evening ends with a Q&A.
