Duncan Campbell: A New No
About
A free exhibition of Duncan Campbell's time-based media sculptural work A New No, a flip-disc screen installation with sound, at GoMA's ground floor gallery.
The final exhibition of GoMA's 30th anniversary programme presents a new commission by Turner Prize winner Duncan Campbell. At its centre is a flip-disc electromagnetic screen animating graphic images using techniques from Disney's '12 principles of animation', showing graphs, flow charts, hand-drawn lines, Soviet cut-out poster animation and moving image film, while a single narrator's voice acts as a counterpoint to the screen. The work draws on flip-dot technology first used at the Montreal Stock Exchange, touching on the seductive impression that markets have a life of their own. The 49-minute time-based media sculptural work with sound screens hourly from 10am to 4pm.
