Curator talk: Kevin de Choisy’s ceramic glaze experiments

A curator talk exploring how British potter Kevin de Choisy tested and refined ceramic glazes to achieve colour and visual effects.

Amber Turner, Curator of Applied Art at Bristol Museums, examines the glaze experiments of British potter Kevin de Choisy (1954–2020). The talk considers how ceramic artists test and refine glaze recipes to achieve different colours and visual effects, from the bold lead glazes of 1700s English potters to contemporary studio pottery. De Choisy drew on both historic English polychrome wares and East Asian ceramics, illustrating how colour links contemporary practice with past traditions.
