Vegetative Grass Identification - Beginners Workshop
About
A beginner-friendly one-day workshop at Lower Smite Farm teaching how to identify common Midlands grasses using vegetative features, with classroom and field sessions.
This one-day workshop from Ward's Ecology teaches beginners how to identify common Midlands grasses using vegetative features such as tillers, sheaths, ligules and auricles, with no prior botanical knowledge required. The day combines classroom exercises with hands-on study of 10–20 potted specimens, using a simplified colour-coded key inspired by John Poland's Vegetative Key to the British Flora. An afternoon field session at Lower Smite Farm lets participants practise identifying grasses in their natural habitats, and attendees leave with a handout key covering 30+ common species.
