Brand New Illuminated Letters Workshop

A one-day calligraphy workshop at Three Little Pigs creating illuminated letters with 23ct gold leaf and gouache, including lunch and materials.

This workshop explores the art of illuminated letters, the embellished capital letters found in medieval manuscripts such as the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells. Participants learn the history of the craft and traditional materials, then create and transfer a design influenced by Victorian-era sample lettering. Under a tutor's guidance they flat gild and burnish parts of their letter with 23ct gold leaf and paint in gouache, producing an approximately A5 finished piece to take home. The day runs 10am to 4pm with a ploughman-style lunch included, and places are limited to 8.
