Telling New Lanark’s Stories – A Celebration of New Lanark’s History Through Stories from the Past
About
A free drop-in day of oral history storytelling, film, genealogy and memory-sharing at New Lanark, part of the Storytelling Festival.
New Lanark World Heritage Site marks its oral history archive with a free drop-in day at Robert Owen’s School for Children, part of Lanark Community Development Trust’s Storytelling Festival. Visitors can watch a ten-minute volunteer-curated film of Voices of the Village recordings, join storytelling sessions in the Historic Classroom, and share memories over tea and cake with archive items on hand. A genealogy researcher will discuss the People of New Lanark database of over 3,000 people, and an activity station invites hands-on exploration of collection objects such as Lizzie Meek’s recipe book and early twentieth-century games. First-come recording slots are available for anyone wishing to contribute their own New Lanark story.
