Installation: Stations 3
About
A free outdoor sculpture installation by G. Roland Biermann, displayed outside the Pathfoot Building at the University of Stirling until March 2027.
Stations 3 is a temporary outdoor installation by artist G. Roland Biermann, sited outside the Pathfoot Building below the dining room. Part of his Stations series, it uses silvery motorway crash barriers and oil barrels painted in shades of red, combining industrial materials with layered meanings. The works can be read as a reinterpretation of the Stations of the Cross and as commentary on humanity's dependency on oil and blood spilt in the pursuit of fossil fuels. Here the barrels sit flat on the ground with cut-out walls replaced by steel sheets, suggesting a ship that has lost its cargo, and the sequence of reds evokes blood congealing and quickening again. Being outdoors, the installation can be viewed at any time.
