Opera North - Eugene Onegin
About
Opera North performs Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in a new production re-imagined in 1980s Russia, sung in Russian with English subtitles.
Opera North presents Tchaikovsky's most popular opera in a brand-new production, co-produced with Irish National Opera and Opera Queensland, that re-imagines the story in 1980s Russia. The opera follows Tatyana, who falls in love with the cynical Eugene Onegin and is rejected, only for him to realise too late, years later, that he loves her now she is married to another. Performed with live orchestra and chorus and sung in Russian with English subtitles, the piece runs three hours including two 20-minute intervals. A pre-show talk takes place before the Wednesday performance, and parental guidance is 12+.
