Light Night Leeds: Gaia and Maia
About
A free Light Night Leeds walkabout puppetry installation featuring giant Earth Mother puppet Gaia and her human companion Maia, sharing stories of connection with the living earth.
Created by Bev Adams Arts with Kerith Ogden and Thingumajig Theatre, this Light Night Leeds installation brings a glowing giant puppet, Gaia, and her small human friend Maia to the University Precinct. Through spectacle, walkabout puppetry and storytelling, the pair invite audiences to reconnect with nature and consider climate change and how small acts of care can help the planet. The project forms part of Bev Adams' PhD research into street theatre puppetry as climate change communication and is inspired by James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis.
