Light Night Leeds: What We Leave Behind
About
A free outdoor Light Night installation by Lou Chapelle pairing holographic videos of dancing leaves with a choral soundtrack inspired by Gair Wood.
Lou Chapelle's installation presents holographic videos of dancing leaves suspended within delicate greenhouse-like structures, symbolising the soil's capacity to heal when given care. The work responds to Gair Wood, a 'woodland of the future' near Leeds where University of Leeds researchers have planted 60,000 trees as a living laboratory for ecological research. A choral soundtrack, recorded with Opera North Young Voices and Youth Chorus, accompanies the piece, with sound design by Fiona McNeill. The free installation runs each evening from 6pm to 9.30pm as part of Light Night Leeds and the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026.
