Natural Magic - Women, Art, Spirit Worlds
About
A free exhibition at Turner Contemporary exploring esotericism, spiritualism and feminism through work by more than 30 women artists from the nineteenth century to today.
Curated by Jennifer Higgie with Melissa Blanchflower, this exhibition expands on Higgie's book The Other Side: A Journey into Women, Art and the Spirit World. It brings historic pioneers such as Georgiana Houghton, Leonora Carrington and Ithell Colquhoun into dialogue with contemporary artists including Tamara Henderson and Donna Huddleston. Spanning drawing, painting, sculpture, film and installation, the works explore spiritual cosmologies, the mythic power of nature, environmental fragility and ancestral knowledge.
