About
An exhibition of portrait paintings from Swindon Museums' collections exploring why people commission portraits and how portraiture has changed across British history.
This exhibition draws on portrait paintings from across the collections at Swindon Museums to ask why people want their portraits painted and what portraits reveal about their sitters. Spanning from formal portraits of the Stuart period to more individualistic 20th-century approaches, it examines stories of class, status and gender across four centuries of British portraiture. School workshops are available alongside the display.
