Beneath the Surface: A Century of Studio Ceramics in Britain
About
An exhibition at Museum & Art Swindon tracing a century of British studio ceramics, from the early 1900s to today, drawn from the museum's collection.
Drawn from the collection at Museum & Art Swindon, this exhibition explores the history of studio ceramics in Britain from the early 1900s to the present day. It examines the founding ethos of studio pottery, which placed beauty and practicality at the heart of everyday objects, and follows clay's evolution as a contemporary art medium. The display highlights a century of innovative styles and techniques and the porous boundaries between art and craft, challenging the divide between fine art and craft. A programme of curator talks and tours accompanies the exhibition, and school workshops are available.
