Art History - Know Before You Go - "Painting the French Riviera": Part 2
About
A lecture by Jo Rhymer exploring the Royal Academy exhibition "Painting the French Riviera" and how the Côte d'Azur inspired modern art.
This is the second of two lectures in which Jo Rhymer discusses the Royal Academy exhibition "Painting the French Riviera" (2 October 2026 – 31 January 2027). The talk examines how the French Riviera's light and landscape propelled Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modernist painters such as Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne, Renoir and Klein to new creative heights, and how the region later became a travel destination and film location epitomising midcentury sophistication. Coffee is served from 9:30am ahead of the 10am–12:30pm session.
