Art History - Art in 18th Century Britain in 5 Parts: Part 1
About
Art historian Julia Musgrave lectures on William Hogarth and the London art world of the eighteenth century, the first of five sessions.
This is the first of five lectures on art in eighteenth-century Britain, hosted by KCWC at the East India Club. Part 1, 'Hogarth and His World', examines squalid, scandalous eighteenth-century London as a place of opportunity in business, trade, entertainment and art, and how patrons' demand for decoration fuelled a recognisably British style in landscape and portrait painting. Julia Musgrave explores the work of William Hogarth alongside contemporaries including Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, George Romney and Joseph Wright 'of Derby'. Coffee is served from 9:30am.
