Home Educators Programme: Mission Clear the Route
About
A hands-on STEM workshop for home-educated children, designing and building a pneumatic crane or winch to clear debris from an evacuation route, inspired by Royal Marines disaster-relief work.
Part of the year-long Mission Critical programme for home educators, this session casts participants as a Royal Marines Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief task group restoring access along a blocked evacuation route. Working in teams, children design and build a pneumatic crane or winch, exploring forces, mechanical advantage, pneumatics and load distribution while testing and improving their ideas. Two age-banded sessions run on the day: 10.30am–12.00pm for ages 7–11 and 1.00pm–2.30pm for ages 12 and upwards, with activities for younger siblings. Tickets also include access to the full Historic Dockyard site.
