About

A two-hour art history course on James Abbott McNeill Whistler's life, work and 'art for art's sake' philosophy, tutored by Ronnie Ireland.

A two-hour daytime art history course at the Guildford Institute examining the life and work of James Abbott McNeill Whistler, the dandyish etcher and painter who championed 'art for art's sake' and won a financially ruinous libel trial against John Ruskin. The session is tutored by Ronnie Ireland and can be attended face to face or online. It notes a major Whistler retrospective at Tate Britain running until 27 September 2026.
