Partition + The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing + ScreenTalk
About
A London Palestine Film Festival double bill of archival films about Palestine, followed by a screen talk with directors Diana Allan and Theo Panagopoulos.
This double bill revisits archival images of Palestine to question how colonial histories are recorded, remembered and reclaimed. Diana Allan's Partition (61 min) weaves found footage from the British occupation of Palestine with audio recorded with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, using asynchronous sound and dialectical montage to recenter Palestinian voices. Theo Panagopoulos's The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing (17 min) is a tender essay film in which a Palestinian filmmaker reclaims a rarely-seen Scottish archive of Palestinian wild flowers. The screening is followed by a screen talk with both directors.
