Sir Nigel Gresley at 150
About
A temporary display in the Great Hall marking the 150th birthday of railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley, next to locomotive Mallard.
This temporary display celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Eastern Railway and designer of famous locomotives including Mallard. Located next to A4 No. 4468 Mallard in the Great Hall, it explores how Gresley advanced the railways through scientific testing, learned from failed experiments, and drew inspiration from sources such as sports cars and waterbirds. Visitors can also feel the effect of streamlining for themselves and colour in a picture of Gresley and his birds at the nearby STEM Shed.
