Academic Seminar – Jason Nuwayhid – The Purifying River of Ezekiel 47: Considering the Ancient Near East
About
A free academic seminar in which Jason Nuwayhid examines Ezekiel 47's purifying river alongside ancient Near Eastern temple texts.
Jason Nuwayhid, a PhD candidate in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Edinburgh, presents a seminar on Ezekiel 47, asking whether the river flowing from the temple is merely a fertility image or also serves a ritual purification role. He reads the vision alongside ancient Near Eastern temple texts, notably the Sumerian Cylinders of Gudea, to explore what they jointly reveal about the river as an agent of purification. The seminar runs 2–3pm and is designed to be accessible across disciplines; community worship at 12.30pm and a free lunch at the Manor house from 1–2pm precede it.
