Our Memories of Leeds Banner
About
A collaborative textile banner made by Being You Leeds members in workshops led by artist Cáit McEniff, on display at Leeds City Museum.
The Our Memories of Leeds textile banner was created in response to the exhibition Don't Let's Ask for the Moon, we have the stars as part of the Community Program at Leeds Art Gallery. Artist Cáit McEniff led workshops with Being You Leeds members exploring the work of John Atkinson Grimshaw and the stories he told of Leeds through the people and places in his paintings. Using collage and textile techniques, the group created a collaborative banner sharing their stories through images of objects, places and people connected to Leeds and their own memories of the city. The banner is displayed at Leeds City Museum, open Tues–Fri 10am–5pm and Sat & Sun 11am–5pm, closed Mondays.
