Bojagi: Cloth Gift Wrapping Workshop
About
A one-day workshop at the Pitt Rivers Museum learning the Korean Bojagi tradition of piecing a gift-wrapping cloth from silk fabrics.
This one-day workshop explores Bojagi, the Korean tradition of wrapping cloths. Participants piece together their own gift-wrapping cloth using traditional Korean silk fabrics, learning the Garumsol (whip stitched) seam and decorative techniques such as bakjwi maedup (Bat knot), settam sangchim (triple stitching) and jatssi (pine nuts). The session also covers the symbolism and traditional use of colour in Korean textile items in the Museum collections, and all materials are provided in a kit. Lunch and refreshments are included in the ticket price.
