America and London
About
Free display of rare City of London archive items commemorating London's links with America and the Declaration of Independence's 250th anniversary.
This exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through rare items from the City of London's archives. Its centrepiece is two 1775 letters sent to the City of London Corporation from the General Committee of Association of New York and the Congress in Philadelphia, addressing taxation and trade relations. Other items include a silk bookmark commemorating Abraham Lincoln's assassination, the order of service for JFK's 1963 memorial at St Paul's, Eisenhower's signed Roll of Fame freedom admission, and Dean Martin's foot outline in a shoe-maker's 'Feet Book'.
