Christmas in Art – GI 26 158

A two-hour art history lecture tracing depictions of the Nativity and the Holy Family in Western art from Roman times to today.

This daytime lecture traces images of the Nativity in Western art from the Roman period to the present, examining how religious depictions and representations of the Holy Family have changed over the centuries and culminating in today's more secular imagery. It is a reworked version of the previous year's lecture. The session is led by art history lecturer Daphne Jefferis, who has a particular interest in 19th and 20th century European art.
