Throwing: Stage 1
About
A four-week beginner pottery course at The Poly Pottery teaching the basics of throwing on the wheel, from cylinders to bowls and cups.
This four-week course introduces the fundamentals of throwing on the potter's wheel, working with smooth stoneware clay. Participants begin by throwing basic cylinders and progress to more complicated forms such as bowls and cups, covering everything from wedging and prepping clay to creating and decorating. Sessions run on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm or 6pm to 8pm, with a class size of three, and are led by tutor Karl Owen. The workshop is physical, requiring extensive use of lower back, wrist, finger, arm and shoulder muscles.
