The World in Black and White: Fine Art Photography
About
Art historian Catherine Wallace gives an illustrated lecture on the history of black and white fine art photography, from Stieglitz and Adams to contemporary practitioners.
Art historian Catherine Wallace traces the origins and development of black and white photography as an art form, beginning with pioneers such as Alfred Stieglitz and landscape masters like Ansel Adams. The lecture also covers photographers of people and architecture, including Henri Cartier-Bresson and the founders of Magnum Photos, alongside Man Ray and Lee Miller's darkroom experimentation. It concludes by looking at contemporary photographers who continue to work in the monochromatic medium.
