Art History - Art in 18th Century Britain in 5 Parts: Part 4
About
The fourth of five art history lectures by Julia Musgrave exploring 18th-century British art, focusing on the Grand Tour and influences from abroad.
This is Part 4 of a five-part lecture series on art in 18th-century Britain, delivered by art historian Julia Musgrave. The session examines the influence of the Grand Tour and other travels on British art, architecture and the decorative arts, set against the backdrop of a booming, scandalous London where new patrons commissioned art to display status and taste. The series also covers artists including William Hogarth, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, George Romney and Joseph Wright 'of Derby', and the role of the Royal Academy. Coffee is available from 9:30am before the session.
