Che Guevara on a Dishcloth
About
São Paulo collective JAMAC with Amilcar Packer discuss their community-embedded social aesthetic practice, part of Arika's Episode 12 day 5.
JAMAC (Jardin Miriam Arte Clube), an initiative active since 2000 in the Southern periphery of São Paulo, Brazil, joins Amilcar Packer for a discussion. Composed of artists, teachers, syndicalists and community organisers, JAMAC embeds community histories into drawn patterns, stencils on textiles, ceramics and house walls to help communities manifest needs and desires towards self-determination. The group shaped the set design for Episode 12, and this session hears about their practice. It is part of day 5 of Arika's Episode 12: From the Rivers to the Seas, five days of film, music, discussion and study.
