Sashiko Embroidery
About
A three-session beginner course at Retford Library teaching traditional Japanese Sashiko embroidery techniques, with a focus on wellbeing and mindful making.
This hands-on adult learning course introduces Sashiko, the traditional Japanese art of decorative reinforcement stitching. Across three Wednesday sessions, participants explore its history and cultural significance, learn to prepare fabric and mark traditional geometric patterns, and stitch a small item such as a coaster, patch or panel. The course also considers how slow, mindful craft can support wellbeing and mental health, and how creative activities might lead to starting a business. It is aimed at beginners, slow stitch enthusiasts and anyone interested in visible mending.
