Accordion for Beginners
About
A one-day beginner workshop at The Stables exploring the piano-accordion, led by tutor Mike Ruff, covering technique, keys and a range of traditional and other styles.
This adult workshop introduces newcomers to the piano-accordion, covering technical basics, choosing keys, playing musically and using the left-hand buttons. Participants explore traditional material including Morris, ceilidh and barn dance tunes, 17th-century music, and French café and Italian styles, before moving on to other genres and playing for dance, bands and singers. Some knowledge of piano keyboard, scales and chords is useful, and a limited number of accordions are available to borrow. Tea and coffee are provided and participants should bring a packed lunch for the 10am–3pm session.
