Bayeux Around Britain
About
A display of Exeter archaeological finds and British Museum digital assets exploring the story of the Bayeux Tapestry and the Norman invasion, with a trail through the galleries.
Part of the nationwide Bayeux Around Britain programme marking the Bayeux Tapestry's return to the UK, this display at RAMM pairs objects from the museum's collection with digital assets from the British Museum and a digital trail through the galleries. It features archaeological finds from Exeter that tell parallel stories of the Norman invasion, including coins minted in Exeter depicting Edward the Confessor, Harold II and William I, pottery showing both Saxon and Norman types, and fragments of Norman architecture. The display was curated by participants from RAMM's youth-led Skills Development programme and is shown in the multi-height 'Viewpoint' windows at the rear of the museum store.
