Creative Writing for Improvers
About
A six-week evening creative writing course for improvers, led by tutor Roger Mills at the Mary Ward Centre in Stratford.
This six-week course is aimed at writers who have completed at least a year at beginners level and are working on their own projects. Sessions combine writing exercises for stimulus and discussion, with optional homework assignments, and students bring material ranging from fiction and short stories to memoir, poetry and novels in progress. Work is read aloud to the group, with constructive feedback in a supportive atmosphere, and the tutor provides handouts, extracts from established writers and exercises each week. The course aims to build specific craft skills, develop self-discipline and risk-taking, and give students confidence to edit and sustain their own writing.
