A 10-week Wednesday evening comedy writing course at Mary Ward Centre in Stratford, taught by comedian Mike Sheer and open to all experience levels.
This evening course at Mary Ward Centre's Stratford site runs on Wednesdays from 20 January to 24 March 2027 and is led by comedian and creative writing facilitator Mike Sheer. Sessions cover the building blocks of humour, comic ingredients such as contrast and dramatic tension, and practical exercises in joke writing, story craft and stand-up routines, with discussion of stand-up, sketch, online and film comedy. Students work in a supportive group setting, receive continuous feedback, and finish with a portfolio of original comedic material. The course welcomes beginners and experienced writers alike, including ESOL learners with intermediate English.
