About

Historian Alec Ryrie joins New College academics for a panel on the global history of Protestantism, marking 180 years of New College.

A panel event marking the 180th anniversary of New College, with historian Alec Ryrie discussing his book 'The World's Reformation: How Protestantism Became a Global Religion' (Yale UP, 2026). The discussion explores how, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, Protestants carried their faith from Lapland to Chile and Barbados to Taiwan, and how missionary ambitions were entangled with colonialism, enslavement and moral failure. Ryrie is joined by New College academics Felicity Loughlin, Simon Burton, Emma Wild-Wood and Pedro Feitoza, with drinks afterwards in Rainy Hall and a pop-up bookshop run by Golden Hare.
