About
A screening of Shu Lea Cheang's cyberfeminist erotic sci-fi I.K.U, introduced by writer and programmer Emily Jisoo Bowles.
The ICA screens Shu Lea Cheang's 2000 film I.K.U, in which shape-shifting android Reiko is sent on a cybersexual mission for the Genom Corporation, moving through seven bodies as the corporation works towards downloadable sexual pleasure. The film, described as a pornographic cousin to Blade Runner, was the first porno selected to screen at Sundance and explores sexual autonomy and resistance. The screening is introduced by Emily Jisoo Bowles, a British-Korean writer, translator and film programmer at Queer East Festival. The film runs 90 minutes, is in Japanese and English with English subtitles, and screens in Cinema 2.
