Adhan Workshop

Turkish imam and muezzin Dursun Şahin leads a workshop on the history, meaning and maqams of the adhan, with a live demonstration and chance to learn to call it.

Award-winning Turkish imam and muezzin Dursun Şahin explores the history, meaning and maqams of the adhan, the Islamic call to prayer recited five times daily for over 1,400 years. The two-hour session covers how its melodic modes developed into a tradition of vocal artistry, followed by a live demonstration. Participants are then invited to learn how to call the adhan themselves. The event is open to all, including women, regardless of faith, with no prior knowledge or experience needed.
