Sema Workshop
About
A two-hour workshop introducing the Sufi whirling sema tradition, with demonstration, music, meditation, Rumi poetry and a chance to try whirling.
This workshop explores the whirling sema tradition practised by Sufis as an act of worship seeking harmony with the universe and Divine Reality. Attendees of all faiths and none will see a demonstration of Sufi whirling alongside music, meditation, chant, and recitation of and reflection on Rumi's poetry. The symbolism and history of whirling will be explained, and participants can try it themselves with instruction from Daniel Thomas Dyer and Uzma Taj, dervishes with traditional training in sema from the Mevlevi Order. The session lasts two hours and doors close shortly before the start time, so early arrival is requested.
