Bronze Axe Casting

An experimental archaeology workshop in which participants cast and finish a replica Bronze Age axe head.

After an introductory talk and handling session with replica tools and materials, students prepare moulds, help operate a furnace to melt copper and tin, and cast, clean and decorate an axe head. The course is outdoors; covered footwear and long sleeves/trousers are required.
