About

A free guided tour of Kelvingrove's galleries exploring the museum's colonial and imperial history, led by curator Nelson Cummins.

Nelson Cummins, Senior Curator of Legacies of Slavery and Empire, leads a tour through some of Kelvingrove's current galleries and displays, examining how empire shaped the museum's foundation and history. Kelvingrove opened with the 1901 International Exhibition and was funded by profits from the 1888 exhibition, both tied to Glasgow's colonial connections. The tour is part of Black History Month Scotland and involves moving around the venue with some standing; wheelchairs and portable stools can be borrowed.
