Ancient Metalworking Workshop

A one-day hands-on workshop smelting copper and casting bronze using ancient techniques, led by experimental archaeologist Thérèse Kearns.

This one-day workshop (10am–3pm with a lunch break) explores ancient copper metallurgy, from smelting copper from malachite to creating bronze alloys. Participants use a clay furnace, charcoal and leather bellows to smelt copper and cast bronze, and take home a cast object they have designed themselves. Led by resident experimental archaeologist and archaeometallurgist Thérèse Kearns, the session requires no experience, is suitable for ages 18+, and includes farm entrance, tuition and all tools and materials.
