Carve a Traditional Scandinavian Shrink Pot
About
A one-day greenwood carving course making a traditional Scandinavian shrink pot from a hollowed log, with an optional lid and carved design.
This one-day course teaches participants to make a traditional Scandinavian shrink pot (Krympburkar) from greenwood. Each person hollows out a freshly harvested log, cuts a dry wooden base and fits it into a carved groove so that the shrinking log forms a tight seal as it dries. Participants can also craft a lid, carve a simple design and, depending on progress, make a second pot. The course runs for six and a half hours at a woodland workshop in Ghyll Wood on the Wyresdale Park estate, held outdoors with an indoor space with a log burner available if the weather requires.
