About

A Winter Lecture Series talk by Dr Matthew Knight on the Bronze Age Duddingston Loch hoard and its destruction and deposition.

Dr Matthew Knight, Senior Curator of Prehistory at National Museums Scotland, discusses the Bronze Age Duddingston hoard, dredged from Duddingston Loch in 1778. The assemblage includes swords and spearheads burnt, bent and broken 3000 years ago before being sunk in the loch; re-analysis is revealing how and why it was damaged and deposited, and what it meant to prehistoric communities. The two-hour talk takes place at Holyrood Park Education Centre and is part of the Winter Lecture Series.
