Light Night Leeds: Luminous Birds
About
A free Light Night Leeds installation of suspended origami-style birds animated by synchronised lighting and sound, open across two evenings.
Kathy Hinde's Luminous Birds is an installation of traditional origami-style birds suspended overhead amongst the arches, brought to life by synchronised lighting sequences and a sound composition of distorted pianos and bells. Each bird's wings are folded at slightly different angles to create a stop-motion animation effect, evoking the mesmerising cooperation of a flock in flight. The installation is open to the public each evening from 6pm to 9.30pm as part of Light Night Leeds, and is linked to research taking place at the University of Leeds.
