Fatma Said and Joseph Middleton – Lunchtime Recital

Soprano Fatma Said and pianist Joseph Middleton reunite for a lunchtime recital as part of the Leeds Song Festival. Their programme opens with German Lieder grouped around themes of innocence, longing, madness and devotion, including works by Mendelssohn, Brahms and Schubert, before turning to Manuel de Falla's Siete canciones populares Españolas. The recital closes with improvisations and traditional Egyptian songs drawn from Said's musical heritage, with further works announced from the stage. The performance lasts 90 minutes including a 20-minute interval.
