Learn to Knit

A five-week Tuesday evening beginners' knitting course at Mary Ward Centre, Stratford, teaching basic stitches, shaping and simple projects.

This course introduces complete beginners to knitting, covering casting on and off, knit and purl patterns, increasing and decreasing, stripes, buttonholes and following a basic pattern. Skills are built up week by week, and in the later sessions learners are encouraged to make a small project such as a scarf, cushion cover or coasters. Basic tools and materials are provided, and the course is designed to give learners the confidence to knit independently afterwards.
