Portrait Mixed Levels
About
A 12-week mixed-level evening portrait painting course at Mary Ward Centre, working from live models with tutor Nicholas Tonino-Baldion.
This 12-week Tuesday evening course teaches portrait painting step by step, from proportion, anatomy and composition to colour theory, skin tones and capturing a likeness. Students work from live models in three four-week pose sets, beginning with drawing before developing a painting over three weeks. Sessions combine demonstrations, practical exercises, individual tuition and group feedback, with references to historical and contemporary portrait painters. Some drawing experience is ideal, and students are encouraged to bring canvases and progress to water-soluble oil paints.
