Dressmaking - Fitting and Pattern Alterations - IPS
About
A five-hour dressmaking workshop at Franklins in Ipswich teaching how to identify fitting issues and alter paper patterns for a better fit.
This in-person class focuses on fitting sewing patterns correctly, a skill many sewists struggle with. Participants learn to identify fit issues and practise common adjustments on 50% scale pattern pieces, concentrating mainly on the bodice, with techniques covering bust, sway back, broad/narrow back, length, shoulder and basic crotch curve adjustments. After covering trouser-fitting basics, the final hour is devoted to students' individual fitting problems, and attendees may bring a handmade garment and its pattern pieces for discussion. Basic dressmaking or menswear experience is preferred; scissors, pins, tape measures, pattern paper and tea and coffee are supplied, but attendees bring their own lunch.
