Moxie: Ned
About
Young artist Ned exhibits his ink drawing Séance, a response to Edward Pien's Dance Macabre Suite from the Middlesbrough Collection, as part of the Moxie project.
As part of Moxie, in which Generation Alpha curates the Middlesbrough Collection, Ned presents his artwork Séance (2026), an ink-on-board piece responding to Edward Pien's Dance Macabre Suite (1999). Ned was drawn to Pien's simple, confident use of ink and his depiction of nineteen figures, which reminded him of artists and illustrators such as Junji Ito. His own work explores analogue horror, using drips, splatters and bubbles in ink to capture a grainy, uncanny atmosphere, with the title Séance referencing supernatural rituals.
