Moxie: Victoria
About
Part of the Moxie exhibition, young artist Victoria's acrylic painting Uncharted Self responds to John Armstrong's The Heaviness of Sleep, displayed alongside related Middlesbrough Collection works.
Victoria is one of the young artists whose work features in Moxie, an exhibition in which Generation Alpha curates and responds to works from the Middlesbrough Collection. Her piece Uncharted Self (2026), acrylic on board, was made in response to John Armstrong's 1938 painting Heaviness of Sleep. It depicts a woman's face shrouded in ivy against a desert landscape, using symbolism such as a winding green band and lilies to explore the flow of subconscious ideas and messy human emotions. The exhibition runs from 25 July 2026 to 31 March 2027.
